Dale Hodgins

Competitor in Skill: Joinery

How did you get interested in your skill?
I got work experience at a local joinery company while I was at school and I really enjoyed it. After finishing school I got an apprenticeship in joinery.

Where did you do your training for your skill?
I attended City of Oxford College.

How did you first find out about your Member organization and its programs?
My college encouraged me to enter the WorldSkills UK Skills Competitions in joinery, the finals of which are held at The Skills Show. While competing, I was asked to compete for a place in Squad UK for WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. I was then lucky enough to secure a place in Team UK.

Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
I always enjoyed woodworking at school and my father always let me help out at home when he was making and fixing things.

What is your experience in participating with your Member organization?

While competing, I was asked to compete for a place in Squad UK for WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. I was then lucky enough to secure a place in Team UK. The training I have received from my Training Manager Andrew Pengelly has helped me work more fluidly and efficiently and has taught me skills that I would not have learned elsewhere.
