I have always been drawn to art and creative based subjects so found that floristry was a natural fit for me. I was given a job opportunity at a local florist shop and my interest grew from there.

I train at work for my apprenticeship with the course work coming from Primary ITO for WorldSkills I do one on one training with my skill Manager.

I was approached by Nina, now my skill Manager, to enter our National competition. I learned more about the organization at the national competition.

Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
I am more and more considering my skill as a career path. i always considered it a passion and a job but with WorldSkills training and competition I am seeing more ways to grow as a career. Nina Stanley my skill Manager has really helped me pursue this.

My experience with WorldSkills NZ is the National and Oceania competitions held at Wintec in Hamilton, team Camps, and training weekends with my expert.

Describe what your experience has been since your involvement with WorldSkills.
My experience has been full on! I have learned so much more in my skills and started to think about and approach my craft differently. I really enjoy the atmospherre of WorldSkills events - it's an extremly positive / supportive environment.

Did participating in the skills competitions and training for WorldSkills help you progress in your skill? Please describe.
Yes. The competitions gave me perspective on my training plan and where I needed to change it and also in what areas I performed well in under pressure. Training helps me improve my skill and my mindset about competing.

What do you currently do? Where do you work?
I am a florist working at the flowershop in Palmerston North.

What are your future career aspirations?
I would love to expand on what I have been learning already by becoming more involved in event floristry. that gives me the opportunity to use some of the more unique skills I have learned on a day-to-day bsais. I would like to work with some really innovative florists in that field in NZ and overseas, stay involved with WorldSkills and training in some way.
