Interview with Frederico Lamego, WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 CEO

6 August 2015

In one week, the greatest vocational education and skills excellence Competition in the world will begin. Learn about the details and highlights of the Competition in an exclusive interview with Frederico Lamego.

What are the expectations around WorldSkills São Paulo 2015?

We have excellent expectations for WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. The fact that it’s the biggest WorldSkills Competition ever demonstrates how significant and important the event really is. We are aware that this Competition has already contributed to the growth of vocational education in other host countries, and we really believe Brazil needs this. Our goal is to promote vocational education development through this event, and I believe we will succeed.

What can visitors expect to find during the four Competition days, since one of the goals is to make this the best Competition ever?

First, it will be a multicultural environment, with Delegations from 59 countries and regions seeking vocational education excellence. The event will provide several interactive activities helping visitors to have a completely immersive experience in the world of trades, technological and service-oriented professions. On site, these activities include the Knowledge Spots - where visitors will see interactive explanations of skills and related careers, “Cyber” - a great meeting point for visitors, and the Digital platform, a major information hub about industry, created to entertain visitors on site, or those participating in the Competition from their homes in various parts of the world.

How long has the Competition Organizer been preparing WorldSkills São Paulo 2015? How many people are involved in the Organization?

We´ve been working for the past two years; it´s a world-class event. Altogether, there are more than 19,500 people involved, including the Competition Organizer team and professionals working on the assembly work, as well as the Industry System (SENAI, SESI and IEL).

What were the main challenges during the Competition organization period?

Ensuring and meeting all international parameter requirements for infrastructure and logistics, as well as hosting and welcoming people from 59 countries and regions.

What´s the legacy WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 will provide for São Paulo?

Our legacy won´t only be in the city of São Paulo. We want to transmit a message to Brazil - to promote awareness among authorities regarding the importance of vocational education, which needs to be developed not only by the government. This agenda needs to be more comprehensive, in order to positively influence the entire country; and this depends on general society representatives.
