Duwayne Davids

  • Age: 21 years

Competitor in Skill: CNC Turning
Country: South Africa

I chose my career field because I have a passion for mechanical engineering and enjoy designing
and manufacturing my own mechanical parts.

I am a 21 year old South African, I grew up in a city called Cape Town in South Africa and i am
proud to be a 21st century artisan. My passion for engineering started when i was still a child,
always fascinated by how things work whether it being my toy cars to any other mechanical
device near me. I attended a technical high school which gave me a push in the right direction. I
then furthered my engineering studies at a TVET college (northlink wingfield campus) where i
was exposed to machinery and started my training as an artisan, i worked through basic
modules of conventional machining until i moved onto the CNC department where i grew much
stronger in my CAD,CAM and machining capabilities, this is where i was introduced to the
worldskills competition and decided to take part. I placed second in the regional competition
and continued with my training and then went onto the national competition where i then
placed first, i am very excited about being able to attend and compete in the international
worldskills competition it will be a great honour to represent my country at such a prestigious
event and also an experience i will never forget. I also hope to share my experiences with future
competitors and grow the worldskills initiative by promoting proud young artisans from South
Africa to prove themselves and to showcase their talents to the rest of the world.
