Competitor in Skill: Wall and Floor Tiling
Country: Hong Kong, China

How did you get interested in your skill?
I became interested in tiling work after an appreciation course on construction skills training provided by the secondary school I attended.

Where did you do your training for your skill?
I learned tiling skill at Construction Industry Council Sheung Shui Training Centre.

How did you first find out about your Member organization and its programs?
I learned of Construction Industry Council and its Basic Craft Courses during the appreciation course on contruction skills.

Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
Mr. TO Fai, my skill trainer, is the one who influences me the most, while Mr. Lee Yiu Lun, the tiling competitor of WSC 2013 comes second.

What is your experience in participating with your Member organization?
I have come to realize that one must bravely yet humbly admit his own mistakes in order to learn and benefit from them. Skill learning is a never-ending process and there is so much to learn.

Describe your most memorable moment so far with WorldSkills?
The intensive training for WorldSkills Competition has strengthened the relationship between my trainer and me. A very special feeling for Mr. TO, my trainer, has grown which is hard to express in words.

Describe what your experience has been since your involvement with WorldSkills.
My experience with WorldSkills so far is an urge for quality. Every single detail needs to be done to a high standard. Recent extensive training has made great demands on my skills, knowledge, and endurance. that is an excellent way to improve myself. I never give up until the best is done.

Did participating in the skills competitions and training for WorldSkills help you progress in your skill? Please describe.
Surely it did. Fundamental skills were taught during the 2-year Basic Craft Course training at Sheung Shui Training Centre. As the recent training for WorldSkills involves more difficult and sophiticated excercises, my tiling skill has advanced considerably.

What do you currently do? Where do you work?
Currently I am under full-time training for WorldSkills Competition.

What are your future career aspirations?
My plan is to become a tiling master in 2 years' time working independantly. Next I would like to be a self-employed craftsman where more autonomy in work can be enjoyed. With more solid working experience and industry connection, I would like to be a contractor and have my own business.
