Competitor in Skill: Wall and Floor Tiling

How did you get interested in your skill?
My brothers have a construction company and I worked there in summer Vacations. I like to do work where you can do with your hands, so I interested in construction work. Then I got in to vocational school (Vocational Qualification in Construction) and I became interested in tiling and bricklaying.

Where did you do your training for your skill?
I´m working as a tiler and I´m also training the test project at school.

How did you first find out about your Member organization and its programs?
First time I heard about Taitaja was when my brother competed. When I was at vocational school, my other brother competed in Taitaja too. Then my teacher asked that if I wanted to try it too and I said yes. Then we got a new teacher and he was the person who got me hooked in competing. I set a goal to compete as far as I can. And now I have got all the way up to the WorldSkills.

Who influenced you to pursue your skill as a career?
I have to say that my teacher was the one who got me inspired. Now he is my trainer and my expert.

What is your experience in participating with your Member organization?
Participation in competitions has been interesting. I have learned a lot of new things and got a lot of experience. On the way, we also had memorable moments and I've made new friends.

Describe your most memorable moment so far with WorldSkills?
I have to say that there is a lot of memorable moments so far; EuroSkills bronze medal, but also the times when I´m training at school. We have really good team spirit at school and at work.

Describe what your experience has been since your involvement with WorldSkills.
Training was challenging at first but now it´s already easier when I have been training the test project.

What do you currently do? Where do you work?
I´m working at a company called Oro Urakointi Oy as a tiler and I´m studying Further Qualification in Building Construction. I graduate after the WorldSkills competition.

What are your future career aspirations?
I have not thought about it yet. Time will show.
